Singapore is known for its strict rules, efficient government, and clean streets, but did you know that the country is also home to some of the fittest fathers in the world? That's right - according to a study by the World Health Organization, Singapore has the second-highest rate of fathers who exercise regularly with their children, coming in just behind Sweden. Talk about setting the bar high!
But it's not just about breaking a sweat - Singaporean fathers are also leading the way when it comes to prioritizing their children's overall health. In a survey conducted by the Health Promotion Board, an impressive 90% of Singaporean fathers reported being involved in their children's health-related decision making, including things like what they eat, whether they get vaccinated, and how much screen time they have.
So what's the secret to Singapore's super healthy dads?
Well, for one, the country places a strong emphasis on family health. The government and NPOs have a number of programs in place to encourage families to lead healthy lifestyles, including KidSTART and CRADLE (Community-enabled Readiness for first 1000-Days Learning Ecosystem) programme which focuses on providing support and resources for expectant mothers and young children.
But it's not just about the government - many Singaporean fathers are taking an active role in their children's health out of a sense of personal responsibility. In a recent interview, one Singaporean father described how he and his wife had made the decision to cook at home and pack their children's lunches for school in order to have more control over what they were eating. He also made a point to take his kids on regular walks and bike rides, both for the exercise and the opportunity to bond as a family.
So why is all of this so important? Firstly, children who participate in regular physical activity with their parents are more likely to lead healthy lifestyles as adults. Secondly, kids who have involved and supportive fathers are more likely to have better physical and mental health, as well as higher self-esteem and academic achievement. Talk about a win-win!
So the next time you see a group of Singaporean fathers out running or cycling with their kids, give them a high-five (or a respectful nod from a safe distance, of course). They are not just getting a workout - they are helping to shape the next generation of healthy and happy adults!
